Fashion keeps on changing while a person’s style is his very own. Still, style often is influenced by the changing fashion. There are very few garments which have won the title of fashion classics and, while you’ll never be out-of-fashion while adorning those, they will simultaneously help you to make your style statement. T-shirt, a wardrobe staple, falls in this category.
Nowadays, T-shirts serve as a medium for messages. I believe what we wear reflects our identity and intellect. I love wearing t-shirts that truly convey the quirks and quiddities of my bong-soul. Bengalis possess some curious idiosyncrasies and, I’m no exception to that rule.
While I was searching for T-shirts having a quintessential Bengali look, I stumbled upon the Nawarasa site and, I knew at once that my search has ended.
Nawarasa has a wide range of merchandise that would provide a feel-good factor to any Bengali heart, young or old.
There’s hardly any bong-soul out there who is not aware of the iconic super-sleuth, Feluda aka Pradosh C Mitter, the immortal creation of Satyajit Ray. Feluda is often considered as the Bengali counterpart of Sherlock Holmes as both of them depend more on their brain-power to solve a mystery logically. Feluda called it “mawgojastra” that is, using the grey cells as a weapon. Nawarasa site has a T-shirt with the same phrase printed digitally on it. The T-shirt, when delivered, was liked equally by all the male members of my family! My 73-year-old father was as happy as a child.
😁😁
Here goes the happy old man looking radiant in the Feluda T-shirt.
As far as the critical appreciation is concerned, the T-shirt is made from good quality breathable cotton and the colour/print is fine with an affordable price.
Apart from T-shirts, the site presents coffee-mugs with catchy Bengali phrases printed on them. A particular one featuring “Starry Night” by Vincent van Gogh, looks beautiful. This section is sure to earn plaudits from coffee aficionados.
I have a predilection for junk jewellery and, Nawarasa has taken care of that too! Their spiffy pendants are good enough to go with any outfit– Indian, western or fusion.
Though we are in the digital era, nothing still is more effective to bail out the monotony of staring at the screen than scribbling out something on paper. At least, I do that often. And lo! I got these designer notebooks with nostalgic covers. Childhood reading memories have come alive once again with these diaries.
Nawarasa has something for everyone.
You can visit the site Nawarasa directly, or you can choose products from Amazon or Flipkart.
For customized/bulk order of T-shirts or coffee mugs, one can contact them on their Facebook Page. The products are also available offline at Read Bengali Book Store, Kolkata.
Oh! Did I mention that Nawarasa is celebrating its birthday on the 23rd of this month. There are gifts and discounts galore on each purchase. (T&C applied) This is their ‘site only’ offer. You can earn an added discount on every purchase for a whole year too!
So, if you are thinking of adding a Bong-twist to your apparels and accessories this Durga Pujo, Nawarasa is the site you are looking for.
Trivia: Brain behind Team Nawarasa — Two teachers and two IT professionals who started this venture as an urge to satisfy their passion and artistic attribution.
You have got a beautiful blog.

This sounds like a very passionate venture by the teachers and IT professionals, Mani. Your dad does look good in the T-shirt. The colour red looks good on him. I had a look at the Nawarasa site and looks like quite a few designs to choose from not only in T-shirts but mugs and notebooks. Very creative visuals and designs. Take care, Mani 🙂
