A mother is born as soon as the child sees the light of this world. It’s not a cake-walk to be a mother. In spite of all the ecstasy, happiness and joy, a mother always has to go through moments of tension and worries, mostly regarding the health of the baby. The adage goes as the mother knows the child best but it definitely takes time and, for a new mother, it often becomes instinctive than obvious to find out the exact reasons of why her baby is in an awful mood or what’s causing the uneasiness.
I remember my own experience, which, shall be there in my mind always as a bittersweet one.
My son was eight-months-old when we planned a trip to Kashmir. We consulted his paediatrician on whether it would be okay to travel to the extreme northern part of the country from the eastern region with the baby and, as he signalled green, we started our journey. My son was a healthy baby with no problem whatsoever, still, we equipped ourselves with the necessary medicines for the baby.
The journey was a smooth one till we reached Pahelgaon. My playful baby boy suddenly caught a cold and became extremely finicky. His crankiness increased as he got a running nose the next day. I also observed that he was having a disturbed sleep due to a stuffy nose and that was the source of all ruckus. As a baby, he was an obligatory nose breather, his discomfort to breathe easily made him a disturbed child overnight. I was facing an immense problem to feed him also as he was perhaps trying to breathe through his mouth instinctively. Whatever it was, it eventually made us nervous and tensed. Honestly, I was almost on the verge of crying. Only a mother knows how painful it is to watch her playful baby becoming a nutty one all of a sudden due to some physical discomfort. Being in a different place, it was not easy to find a good doctor, but fortunately, there was a lady doctor in our hotel who was there with her family for a vacation.
The doctor at once came to our rescue. She examined the baby and said that he was suffering from rhinitis. The nasal irritation and stuffiness had occurred from some bacterial infection. However, she told us not to worry and advised to give enough liquids to the baby. She prescribed a syrup and a nasal decongestant, preferably Nasivion®. We could fetch both easily from the local market. What a relief it was to find my baby laughing and eating again playfully as the nasal drop worked magically! Our trip ended on a happy note.
It was a new lesson for a new mother. Rhinitis is very common among children. It is usually triggered by airborne allergens like pollen and dander. A blocked nose is a frequent symptom that can create extreme discomfort for the baby. From then on, Nasivion became our saviour for such problems. However, I always consulted my doctor before using it. We should also remember addiction to anything is bad and, the nasal-spray is no exception. Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride containing nasal drops should not be used for longer than 10 consecutive days. A treatment-free period of several days should precede any repeated use.
Nasal Saline Solution, like Nasivion, as the first line of treatment, is safe and can be used by anyone. If the problem is aggravated, then one can opt for Nasivion (Mini) Baby Nose Drops or Nasivion Pediatric (Child) Nose drops depending on the age of the child. However, make sure you consult your paediatrician before using the product.
If your baby suffers from the problem of rhinitis, you can find more relevant information here. Let your baby breathe freely and enjoy because we know when the kid is happy, the mom feels the same. #HappyNoseHappyMom

Very informative post for moms with small kids. I remember having used Nasivion nasal drops. What I particularly liked is that you have clearly mentioned that the drops should not be used for longer than 10 consecutive days and there should be a treatment-free period of several days between the intermittent use of drops. Naak khush maa khush. 😀
Excellent advice, and yes every mother I think Mani goes through the same worry when their children get sick.. Especially when they are so young they cannot tell you how they feel or if they are in pain..
Sending love and Hugs your way.. ❤
Nice presentation.
Yes, mother finds out instinctively more than by knowledge why child is unhappy.
You rightly detailed about nasal drops.
You were lucky to get a qualified doctor.
Thanks for sharing.

Rhinitis can be extremely uncomfortable. My son also suffered from breathing problems a lot in his infancy. Glad to hear it ended well.
