Nostalgia, Silent Season

1-pinic 005

Ephemeral thoughts, illusion of the past
Disjointed memories waving at me as if
From a train pulling off slowly.
I wait,
With sadness and longing to be on board.
Once again.

Scattered happiness, bits and pieces
Jig-saw puzzles I failed to put rightly
Hazy dreams of mist and rain.
I got drenched,
In happiness as I stood
On the long lost highway.

  1. Wow.. Very beautiful lines.. Loved this line, ‘Disjoint memories waving at me as if, from a train pulling off slowly’ Well written.. And the image is so pleasant.. Seems as if sky and the river are merging into one by removing the horizon.. Have a great day.. 🙂

  2. Loved the way you connected the whole feelings with the concept of train. This is what I’ve been missing for a few days. Beautifully conceived, Maniparna 🙂

  3. ‘illusion of the past’ – a very interesting use here Maniparna….what we remember from the past is many times an interpretation, a perception….very thoughtful…..

  4. Love it. So sweet and poignant! There are reasons for silent seasons and lessons yet to be learned from the past and our feelings of nostalgia. I think of them like rainy days where as with the soil we just need to let things soak in as a way of nourishing us for the next pressing forward. Love and hugs, N 🙂 ❤

  5. A very sweet metaphor! Waving from a moving train!

Nostalgia is indeed a sweet and sad experience. It’s the refuge of an emotional and sensitive mind with long memories. Nothing is bitter across the rainbow. There’s simply a warp, which causes sad memories lose their sting and become funnier, whereas sweet memories develop that pang, causing us to yearn for them. Just like the longing of boarding that metaphorical train!

    Very beautiful poem, Maniparna! 🙂

  6. Parting and the sadness associated with the train pulling off from the station and disappearing along the tracks, then gathering bits and pieces of happiness again denotes the reality of life. Beautifully penned Maniparna. 🙂

  7. Calcutta! You can never be pulled away from the jhaal Mudi, rishkas, yellow cabs, howra bridge, addas, beguni, alta, laal para saari and ghats!
    Love the picture 🙂

  8. Whistles!!!! This is soo beautiful Maniparna.. I could feel each line and word ❤ Beautifully put! Thank you so much for participating 😀
