Fear

Wrapped in darkness, he comes
like an assassin.
Ready to pounce yet waiting
for the right moment.

A soul, leery of getting wounds,
shrinks and pulverizes.
Or chants the mantras, of
saints and sages.

His yellow eyes, twinkle in joy
As he finds his prey
in the shadow
of his own self.

I’m not afraid of thee.
Just a few words and,
the mind-killer is dead.
Light’s there.

  1. Beautiful poem.Well said Maniparna.
Wonderful quotes by Oprah Winfrey, “The thing you fear most has no power. Your fear of it is what has the power. Facing the truth really will set you free”. We need courage to face fear.Otherwise we are definitely a victim to the fear.

  4. Too good!

It’s ‘the fear’ that we are afraid of. Rest everything is just a medium. The clapping thunder of the dark clouds fill a farmer’s heart with joy, on the other hand, it causes the heart of a child to quake All we need to do is, conquer it. The cloud is not fearsome. It’s just the monsters locked in our hearts, which make it fearsome.

As Freud said about sex, fear is just psychology too.

  6. A flick of a switch varies the outcome – fearfulness to fearlessness, lull to hope, positivity to negativity – the choice of those outcomes lies in our effort to do that flick; so nicely weaved!

  7. Sometimes fear manages to lurk around the corners of our consciousness.. but the light of faith soon banishes it into nothingness.
    Beautifully penned 🙂

  8. Cowardly face of fear, in the way it will succumb to resolve of light, is so well depicted in your poem, mani. As the Buddhist chant goes, ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’…best wishes.

  9. I love Paulo Coelho’s quote from “The Alchemist” that mihrank wrote above. Here is another inspirational quote on the subject of fear:
“Everything you want is on the other side of fear.” (Jack Canfield)

  10. That is the right approach Mani! When we look this monster in the eye and say – who are you, it prances around for some time and you don’t even realise when it bounds away.

All those fears of competition, of failure and ridicule melt away when we accept that they are meaningless if we put in the best of our efforts.
I am glad you have vanquished it!
