Heart- though the word exudes romanticism in poetry and literature, or, even in the love life of humans, but it has a bigger and more important part to play in our life. Our life, to be precise, depends on the proper functioning of the most important organ of the circulatory system of our body, the heart. The main function of the heart is to propel blood in every nook and corner of the body through the circulatory system, supplying oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and removing carbon dioxide and other wastes.
Our body needs a constant supply of oxygen and, so the heart works relentlessly like a perfect machine. Throughout our life, it never stops for a moment. And, we dread the moment when it does so. But sometimes, there comes a moment when the heart gives warning signs that it is tired of working. Yes, I’m talking about that time when we feel helpless and, immediately seek professional medical assistance; when a member of our family faces a heart attack.
A heart attack (myocardial infarction MI in medical terminology) occurs when our heart muscle is starved of oxygen-rich blood. This can cause damage to the heart muscle and, can be fatal at times. It goes without saying, that, we must prepare ourselves to face such a situation. Knowing the details of the best cardiologists in Kolkata, is the first step in combating the attack.
Heart attacks, unlike many other diseases, don’t give us much time. The sooner one gets emergency medical care, the greater the chances of survival. It is NEVER advisable to wait in case one feels chest pain or any sort of discomfort like severe sweating with dizziness, nauseous or becomes short of breath. The symptoms may vary from person to person, but the degree of danger remains more or less same.
I remember a recent incident in our locality. An aged couple was living all on their own as their only daughter shifted to another city after her marriage. One night, the lady’s husband felt a severe chest pain and, became unconscious. The lady handled the difficult situation with great aplomb and, immediately contacted one of the nearby heart hospitals in Kolkata. Had she been not aware of the details of the hospitals, it would be difficult for her husband to survive. It is to be noted, that, heart attack and cardiac arrest are different terms. A cardiac arrest happens when the heart stops pumping blood around the body and, often the victim becomes unconscious. Although, a heart attack can lead to a cardiac arrest, but technically both are not the same.
A healthy lifestyle and a well-balanced diet reduce the chances of heart attack. Smoking and/or using any other tobacco products, lack of physical activity, affinity for junk foods, high cholesterol and sugar level are some of the primary reasons for heart attacks.
Try to avoid these and, enjoy a healthy and happy life.
I hope this will be of use to someone in need.

Thank god the lady knew the hospitals nearby o.o I have been hearing a lot of death by heart attacks in the past few months and this only scares me more. You are right in saying that one needs to be more knowledgeable in knowing their health care centers in and around their homes. Very helpful post dear

Aha… don’t be so pessimistic. 😀 We can at least seek some help from those who know how to mend crippled hearts, though temporarily…. 😛
