Nisha was feeling asphyxial. It seemed that she was falling deeper down a black, steep, never-ending abyss. She wanted to cry out but couldn’t utter a word.

Silent tears were making her shawl wet as she was sitting by the side of the bed. Sleep, on this night, looked like a distant dream. Ankit, her husband, was in a deep slumber and, the sound of his light snoring was in perfect sync with the cold, metallic sound of the air-conditioner.

“How could he do this to me?” Nisha was thinking with glassy eyes. “But I’ve heard it loud and clear, so lovingly Ankit was saying to someone,‘Good night my sweet darling, will catch up tomorrow’”. She recalled the hush-hush tone of his voice as if to exacerbate her acrimony.

Her phone was lying on the bedside table. A sweet ‘ting-tong’ at regular intervals was informing her of an incoming message. She was absolutely not in a mood to pay attention to the phone and, was ignoring its presence for a long time. But, the alert tone was becoming hard to bear.

She picked up the phone and was taken aback seeing the sender’s name. With trembling hands, she quickly opened the message.

It read, “APRIL FOOL MY SWEET DARLING, YOURS EVER, ANKIT”.

I’ve been tagged by Vishal to take part in the Five Photos Five Stories (FPFS). The challenge works like that: You post a picture for five consecutive days and attach a post to it, fiction, poem or short write-up. It can be anything that suits your taste. I am also tagging my good friend, Teny on Day One, as part of the challenge, I will tag a new person on Day Two.

  6. The moment she said she had heard it perfectly right , I knew what’s coming …because had it been a real tearjerker, you would have let her doubt herself – the first natural reaction ..isn’t it ? he he …may be I am wrong dear … but I thought so ..
