The Stubble Story

Arpita and Asish were newly married. Their marriage was just two months old and both of them were still rejoicing those most precious moments of their lives. One fine morning, while Arpita was busy preparing the breakfast, Asish called out,”Honey, from today I’ve stopped shaving as I would like to adorn a stylish stubble”.

“What? a stubble?? I hate that Asish, you know. It looks so unhealthy and unclean and it’s no more a fashion trend.”

“But I like it dear …won’t you love me and help me find my happiness in a mere stubble?” Asish said it so dramatically that it made Arpita laugh and the case closed for the time being.

But with every passing day, Arpita was finding it more and more intolerable. The growth of Asish’s stubble was in direct proportion to her anger and frustration. She even thought that she would shave the stubble off while Asish was asleep but refrained herself from doing such an unethical thing somehow. But she was searching for a solution, every moment.

Asish was becoming more and more obsessed with his stubble. Though he was aware of the fact that Arpita had an utter disgust for it, he used to avoid the topic smartly every time.

One day as Arpita was combing her hair and looking at herself in the mirror, she struck gold. “Yesss” she mused, “It would work for sure”.

Two weeks later, it was Annual Day at Asish’s office. On this day, all the employees were invited to participate in different programs along with their families. Asish was super excited for it was the first time Arpita would be there to accompany him and that they would participate in the “Made For Each Other” contest. He was almost dreaming to win this most coveted event of the day.

Arpita was excited too. She wanted to know the effects of her ‘well-maintained’ plan. In the evening, as she came out of the bedroom wearing a black embellished dress, Asish exclaimed instantly, ” Wow honey, you’re looking ravishing!”

But his expression changed at the very next moment. “Yewwww!!! What happened to your eyebrows? They are looking like a pair of black caterpillars!!!”

Arpita was cherishing the expression. She sweetly said, “I’m liking them in this way and I’ve also decided that as long as you’re keeping your stubble, I’ll keep my eyebrows like this….no trimming and nothing. Let them grow in their own way”.

Asish was quick enough to get the cue. “Sorry dear, now I can understand that unkempt hairs really look nasty and unclean. It’s a sore to the eyes. I’ll be clean shaven within ten minutes. But what about you? How will you get rid of those caterpillars?”

Arpita just moved her right hand over her eyebrows and took out those extra clumsy false items.

“See…it’s magic.” She laughed and then added, “I just wanted to show you that the stubble looks similarly nasty and  unclean and is a barrier in between you and me”.

“I understand now dear. With this stubble, I would’ve missed the chance to accompany my beautiful wife in the“Made For Each Other” contest”. Said Asish and both of them shared a hearty laugh.

  4. Great story , I thought she was going to start cutting her hair a little each day to match the stubbles growth , I know how she felt because when my husband decided on the same path I could feel my frustration growing in unison with the growth , wish I had thought of cutting my hair ha ha , anyhow after about 3 days he decided life was happier when the wife was happy so he shaved it off thankfully.
