Book Reviews : Dear Wife , Your Husband Is Not A Superhero & Second Heart

It is said that the purpose of life is to contribute in some way to make things better for other people.  These two recently published books    Dear Wife , Your Husband Is Not A Superhero  and   Second Heart    are exemplary to the said notion . No , these two books are not ordinary works of fiction . Rather they’ve been written with a specific goal , to enlighten the readers about those  things of everyday life which we seldom notice or realize , be it the absence of love and depth in relationship between husband and wife or  minor health issues leading to bigger problems .

download (14)Dear Wife , Your Husband Is Not A Superhero has fourteen situational stories depicting different  problems in which couples often get tangled  in and search for solutions in order to keep their marriage intact .  Each story has a note at the end explaining the probable solution to the particular problem .

The stories narrated deal with practical problems like single parenthood as an outcome of divorce , the irreparable relationship between husband  and wife as their point of view towards life and love differs  or when one partner is plagued with avarice leading to a disastrous situation. We’re quite acquainted with these sort of things in our society . The stories are short , crisp and precise.

I can’t resist to cite some quotes from the book  :

“Most couples want to divorce the form of ‘marriage’ but not the person.”

“Can Money Buy Happiness? Do we have ‘Money Personalities’? “

” People often like to get married to those who share many things in common , such as similar educational background , job and field  , but of personality in common are hard to find ”

” Winning over a conflict won’t win you a gold medal in the Olympics “

” Peace between couples is essential but that doesn’t imply that there should be no fights “

“”People are not scared of love; people are scared of marriage.”

You can go through the book to learn a few things  be you’re  married or  unmarried , scared-to-get-married or bored-about-your-marriage .

Some points I would like to mention that the book has quite a  few printing mistakes and some editing errors which I hope will be rectified in the next edition . Some episodes are too short and the point of discussion appears to be vague and  incomplete .

From my side it’s  3/5

Name : Second Heart

No. Of Pages : 80

Publisher : Aravind India

Authored By : Santosh Avvannavar  and Dr. Sandeep G . Huilgol

1-second-heart-coverpage Second Heart    ( First Heart beats for Love . Second Heart beats for Life ) is a collection of five stories , each of which  has an intention to impart knowledge and awareness about kidney diseases and problems which are commonly  overlooked by us due to ignorance. The stories are woven wonderfully keeping in my mind other social issues also like pre-marital sex and pregnancy , the  habit of self-medication which can create serious  health problems and sudden financial crunch which often force people to neglect their treatment and medication  and most importantly , human trafficking . In all the stories ‘love’ plays a pivotal role and that each of the stories can stand by itself  .

What I liked most that the knowledge about nephrology , medical terms , cause and effect of different kidney-related diseases is imparted to the reader in a smooth way and the stories are so engrossing that the reader never feels this knowledge as a burden . The book is quite successful in its attempt to handle a technical issue in a non-technical , entertaining manner .

Our kidneys act as filters of the body  which on failing could lead to serious  problems and can cause slow but sure death. This  book can be taken as a wake-up  call for those who have a tendency to neglect minor health problems .

From my side it’s 4/5

  2. I’ll risk reading the first one. It sounds interesting although I’m a little distressed at the thought of printing mistakes and editing errors. Two things I abhor. But hey, thanks for drawing my attention to these books.
